Miguel Ceja, the founder and owner of Terra Petra Gardens. Was born and raise in Michoacán, Mexico. Like many others, his family was poor, food was often scarce. and for more than three years, they made their home beneath the sheltering trunk and branches of a large Parota tree.
In 1978, Miguel emigrated to California seeking a better life, he began as a dishwasher in a Redwood City restaurant, then moved a year later to southern California to join his father and cousin in a landscape maintenance business.
Miguel returned to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1983 to start his own landscape maintenance service. Shortly thereafter, he was hire by Brende and Shapiro as a senior employee, it was during this period that Miguel was introduced to the large, estate gardens of the East Bay Hills, and began to hone his skills in the aesthetic pruning of trophy trees and landscape.
In 1990, Miguel left Brende and Shapiro to devote full-time to his own, rapidly expanding landscape maintenance business. His company, Terra Petra Gardens was successful from the beginning and has grown and flourished for the past 24 years just like the many gardens that it cares for.
Miguel and his wife live in Richmond, California with their two youngest children, Christian and Lizeth, their oldest son Jose, served in Fallujah, Iraq as a member of the US Marine Corps, and now works as a truck mechanic for Federal Express in Sacramento, He is married and has two children of his own.
Miguel’s reputation for high quality work, courteous employees and reasonable rates is a Direct result of his memories of a loving, but difficult life in Mexico. He gives daily thanks For being allowed to live the American Dream.
